Handing over the petition to the President's office

Monday, November 25, 2002

This was a big day and a good one for the film. It is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children.

At the Union Buildings, the police guarding the door wouldn’t let us in with the cameras, saying no-one is allowed to film inside the building. So after several phone calls, we were met by one of the President’s staff who wanted us to hand over the petition there. We insisted that we be allowed inside and found an arch way that looked appropriate and did the handover there. Sam and the twins actually handed it over, and Glory and I both made comments. Glory notes that the president couldn’t be here personally to receive the petition as he was playing golf with George Bush. It was classic.
