Today came the big break through. I was so desperate for something positive to happen – and it did. We met the police reservist, Myra Carrol at Norwood police station. She agreed to the interview in one of the upstairs’ offices. She said she couldn’t remember anything, but when I showed her the school photo, she said did recall going to the school to get the magazine. She was looking at the photo, saying she didn’t remember who Laura picked out, and then said, ‘there is someone that stands out’. I urged her to point to the one, and she picked him out. She pointed to [the perpetrator]. She couldn’t believe it when I said ‘that’s him’. She was as staggered as I was. She said that something in her head must be stirring. Then she also confirmed that once she handed this information to Jan van der Mescht, he handled everything from there on. She didn’t do any interviews. This is what we wanted Arnold to hear. So the interview really does help us, and, quite honestly, I could have kissed her.
