We met with Andre Neethling, the head of the Sexual offences Unit in Braamfontein this morning. This was very reassuring. Andre assured me that my mother’s case is being given a high priority and that others are working on getting evidence in Arnold’s absence this week. He said he is still puzzled as to why all trace of this case has been lost andf is checking into the family of the suspect to see if there are any high up connections or links to Afrikaner societies like the Broederbond. He also welcomed the idea of me getting private detectives on the case to give his unit some help. He agreed to be interviewed tomorrow and we offered to do the transcript of Laura’s tapes and give those to him tomorrow so a written statement could be prepared which she must sign.
I left there feeling much happier about the way the police are handling this and realised I just have to be patient.
