I woke up at 4am and lay there for almost an hour getting used to the idea that I’m finally in Johannesburg and enjoying the feeling. Finally I did go back to sleep and awoke at 8am. Our car was delivered this morning and Tony the sound recordist came over for morning tea. We liked him instantly and within two hours we had signed an agreement making him a major member of the team.
The roads are all strangely familiar and I’m surprised at how well I know my way around. There are memories on nearly every street corner and occasionally a scene from my past floats past in the rear vision mirror. I remember this place so well and yet its like being in a dream. I seem to be looking through a haze of time and memory and the picture is out of focus. This place was home to a person who no longer exists, and I am trying to make the images I see now fit with the person that I have now become. Surreal is probably the best way to describe the sensation.
