I am trying to locate all of Laura’s medical records. The hospital and doctors are being very evasive about this. Persistence is required here.

I also visited Norwood Police Station. It’s difficult to find out who is handling my mother’s case. Finally, I tracked him down – his name is Detective Warrant Officer Van Der Mescht. I wish I had taped my interview with him – it was unbelievable. Basically, he said:

• We’ve done all we can
• We’re waiting for the TV show POLICE FILE to screen what we know from Laura’s attack – our last hope!
• Too much time has passed – the trail is cold
• We can’t investigate the suspects in case they sue us (the police) for invasion of privacy or false accusation.
• In other words, they can’t (or won’t) do a proper investigation.

When I expressed disbelief and asked him how he could operate effectively, he just sat back in his chair and said, “Exactly. That’s how it is in this country.”

He also expressed the feelings that my mother hadn’t taken sufficient precautions and implied the attack was her fault. He said there were no finger prints or any real evidence and that it would be my mother’s word against the suspect’s, and implied that a judge wouldn’t believe her. He concluded that, if I wanted the case investigated any further, I should do it myself.

So now I am to be the nurse, doctor, therapist and police investigator – WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PLACE??
