The operation was a success. Laura looked calm, even pleased. I was annoyed that they wanted to discharge her so soon. Her nose was full of blood. It was up to me to take on the nursing now. I brought her home and we had to bathe the nose four times a day and put in drops. If I hadn’t been here, she wouldn’t have coped at all.
I told Laura about my dream of taking her to Australia. She responded well – it sounds magical – but she had severe doubts about the practical details. The South African Government had placed a limit on the amount of money people can take out of the country. If we sell Laura’s home, how are we going to get the money out of the country to support her in Australia?
